The AKU Application Process Made Easy

The medical college at Aga Khan University (AKU) is considered one of the best medical colleges in Pakistan. Every year, it begins its admission cycle during the early summer months and conducts its annual entry test before the MDCAT. The procedure to apply and prepare for the entrance exam might seem confusing to most premedical aspirants who want to make the best of their limited preparatory period. Hence, this blog intends to simplify the AKU entry test application process for you, from creating the account to hitting “Submit” so that you would not have to waste any more time looking for guidance!

Step 1: Register on the website & create your application

The first step in your application process is to sign up/register on AKU’s website. [Link]: https://www.aku.edu/apply-online.

Once you open this link, you will be asked for your login information. If you are applying to AKU for the first time, you will have to create a new account on the aforementioned website by clicking on the ‘New user’ hyperlink that appears in the bottom left corner of the login box.

Following this, an information box reading ‘Create your online application account' will appear. Enter all the required details, ensuring they are correct, and then click ‘Register’ at the bottom right of the box.

Note: When registering for the first time, a ‘Secret question’ box and a ‘Response’ box appear on the portal. These two ensure that you can safely recover your AKU account if you ever forget your password, so make sure to add your most memorable information there!

Once you are registered to the website and can log in to your account, you will be redirected to a new window to proceed with your application. Select ‘New application’ from the green bar atop the page. Next, select your country and the program you are applying for (e.g., Pakistan, MBBS) and then click ‘Create application’. Your application form is now active and is ready to be filled!

Step 2: Declaration

As soon as your application is displayed, a declaration form will appear on the portal. Make sure to read all the terms and conditions carefully. If in agreement, check the ‘I accept’ box and click ‘Next’.

Step 3: Enter personal information

The green bar atop the window contains a ‘Personal details’ box at the leftmost corner. Click on it and fill in all the information as required. If your permanent address is the same as your correspondence address, check the ‘Same as correspondence address’ box.

Step 4: Program checklist

The deadline for submission of the online application form is 4th May, 11:59 PM PST.

Attach the following to complete your application:

Note: File size must not exceed 2 MB for each photograph and 5 MB for other documents.

File compressor:
If your file sizes exceed the given limit, you can compress them by clicking the links below.

For PDFs: https://www.ilovepdf.com/compress_pdf
For images: https://compresspng.com/

Step 5: Educational/Professional qualification:

For BISEK and FBISE ISLAMABAD:
When entering your certificate/degree/qualifications, begin with the latest. For example, if you have recently completed your HSSC-II, that would be your first mention, followed by HSSC-I, and then SSC. Your major group will be Science/Premedical.

Mention your year of admission and year of completion of the aforementioned certificates/ degrees/qualifications. For instance, if your year of admission in HSSC-II is 2022 and your year of completion is 2023, enter 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Select your institution. If your institute is not on the list, type it in manually. Also, mention the city where your institution is located.

If you have not received your result yet, select ‘Result awaited.’ Otherwise, leave it blank.
Select your respective board and fill in the correct details regarding your total and obtained marks. In the subject column given below, mention your obtained marks for HSSC-II, HSSC-I, or SSC-I out of the total marks.

If you have clicked ‘Result awaited’, your subject column will automatically be disabled.

For CAIEs:
Follow the same steps as mentioned above. However, start with your latest qualification, i.e., A-levels, followed by O-levels.

In the subject column, do not mention all the subjects that you have taken as a Cambridge student, as you will not be able to proceed with your application. Rather, mention four subjects only, i.e., Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English.

After having completed each qualification, click ‘Save and add new qualification’. Similarly, you will have to add three qualifications if you are a BISEK or FBISE Islamabad student: HSSC-I, HSSC-II, and SSC. As a Cambridge student, you will have to mention A-levels and O-levels. After completion, review your details. If all is well, then you are good to go.

Step 6: Documents

Marksheets

Step 7: Upload the required documents

Documents should be in PDF/JPEG format and document size must not exceed 5 MB.

Select the required document type (e.g., for equivalency/mark sheet, select education), and type the name of the document. Then upload all the above-mentioned documents.

Work experience

Cross-check the documents from the documents list given in the application.

Step 8: Test/IV Center and Payment

If you are getting tired of filling out the application form, then feel free to take a break!
Make sure you are fresh and thinking clearly for this step.
After logging in to the website with your email and password, click on "Active Applications". Then go to "Edit the current application" (appearing right at the top) and you will see a page with options to edit different segments of the form.

Now click on the last option titled "Photograph, Application Fee, and Other Details", and you will be directed to a new page with three sections:

Fill each section carefully.

Note that there is a list of centers available where one could take the test, including all the major cities in Pakistan. Aside from Pakistan, you can take the exam in any one of the following listed cities:

However, for the Interview, there are only three centers to choose from:

You can choose two centers according to your feasibility and yes, you have to visit Pakistan to take the interview.

Application Fee:

You can pay the application fee either via online bank transfer or by paying and submitting the voucher physically at the bank. Choose whatever suits you from the "Payment mode" option.

After the payment, fill in the details on the same page and upload the paid fee voucher/ acknowledgment email on the next page.
Do not forget to upload your photograph for the admit card. Remember, the photo should be taken within the last 7 days, showing your full face and current appearance. Save and move to the next step!

Step 9: Review and submit

Once you have finished filling out the whole form, make sure to review everything once before submitting it. You can ask your guardians or older family members to sit with you and go through every detail to remove blunders like misspelled names, wrong addresses, and incorrect contact details. Verify that all your documents are uploaded and placed in their correct respective categories.

That brings us to the end of this blog. We hope that it helped you. Good luck!
